Dr. Saud Anwar is a Yale-trained pulmonary and critical care physician, public health leader, and Connecticut State Senator dedicated to improving lives through medicine, public service, and humanitarian leadership. With more than three decades of experience in healthcare and nearly twenty years as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Manchester Memorial and Rockville General Hospitals, he has led efforts to advance healthcare quality, strengthen communities, and shape public policy. In the Connecticut General Assembly, he has helped lead landmark legislation in healthcare, public health, children's well-being, and consumer protection that has positioned Connecticut as a national leader and provided models for other states. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to compassionate leadership, evidence-based solutions, and service to others—locally, nationally, and internationally.

Dr. Saud Anwar is an American physician, public health leader, and elected statesman whose career represents the intersection of medicine, public service, and humanitarian leadership. For more than three decades, he has dedicated his life to advancing the health and well-being of individuals and communities through patient care, healthcare leadership, legislative innovation, and civic engagement.

As a Yale-trained pulmonary and critical care physician with a Master of Public Health, Dr. Anwar has cared for patients with complex pulmonary disease, respiratory failure, and critical illness. For nearly twenty years he served as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Manchester Memorial and Rockville General Hospitals, guiding the medical staff through the COVID-19 pandemic and significant structural change in healthcare while keeping decisions centered on patients and the communities the hospitals serve.

Representing Connecticut's Third Senate District, he serves as Senate Co-Chair of the Public Health Committee, Vice Chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, and a member of the Appropriations and Human Services Committees. His legislative work has expanded healthcare access, reduced prescription drug costs, strengthened behavioral health, protected reproductive freedom, and increased affordability for Connecticut residents - always through practical, bipartisan solutions rooted in science and compassion.
